Polonnaruwa Cycling

Polonnaruwa is the second oldest kingdom in Sri Lanka after Anuradhapura. The ruins of this fort are listed as a World Heritage Site and are famous for their advanced engineering, elaborate buildings and spectacular Buddha statues. Since the fort complex is quite large, cycling is a good way to get around at a good pace without spoiling the real experience.

How long does a cycling experience usually last?

The duration of a cycling tour of Polonnaruwa, can vary depending on the pace of the tour. Typically, the tour lasts 2 to 3 hours, giving tourists ample time to explore the impressive ruins and monuments while learning about their historical significance from the guide.

Typically includes a visit to several notable monuments and ruins, such as the Gal Viharaya (Rock Temple), the Royal Palace Complex, the Square, the Rankoth Vehera (Golden Tower Stupa), and the Parakrama Samudra (Royal Water Reservoir). These sites showcase the architectural and cultural achievements of ancient Sri Lanka and provide insight into the country’s rich history.

The site can also be done in a Tuk tuk. This would be a great option for people with mobility issues. However, it may still involve walking to access uneven terrain and some monuments.
